Title:  A Vampire’s Kiss: Book One of the Manigault Vampires

Author:  Laura Stamps

Publisher:  Kittyfeather Press

Review:

We start out by meeting Sara and Dray who are introduced at a party to celebrate Samhain. Sara is a Wiccan Green Witch who is in town visiting her friend, Maylene, and is introduced to Dray who is dressed as Dracula. She is instantly attracted to this handsome stranger dressed as one of her favorite things: vampires.

Dray, the owner of Manigault Technologies, finds himself trying to hold back his laughter while spending time with Sara. He finds it truly refreshing to find someone who speaks their mind at all times. At the end of the night he asks her to meet up with him the next day and Sara loves what she finds as things begin to heat up between them.

A VAMPIRE’S KISS is the first in the The Manigault Vampires serial series by Laura Stamps and has promises of steamy hotness to come! Even though there are characters that are brought in from The Witchery Series, which I have yet to read, I didn’t feel lost which was great. The story line so far kept my attention and the ending left me wanting more. I must say that I can’t wait to read the next part!

Q & A With Laura:

1.) Can you briefly describe The Manigault Vampires Series and The Witchery Series in your own words for those who have not read them?

The Witchery Series trilogy is my primary series, and all my other series are spin-offs from this main series. The Witchery Series is a sexy paranormal romance novel series where you'll meet five wonderful Witches: Savannah, Maylene, Mirabella, Noelle, and Ravena. There's something for everyone in this trilogy set in Columbia, South Carolina. The novels range from empowering to romantic to erotic. You'll also find real spells, chants, and rituals in each one, because I’m also a Wiccan Faery Witch.

The Manigault Vampires is my first serial erotica novel series in ebook. Yeah, I'm really excited about this series! In this spin-off series, you'll meet Drayton Manigault, the owner of Manigault Technologies and one of the richest businessmen in Columbia, South Carolina. Dray also happens to be one of the oldest vampires in the city. All of the Witches in The Witchery Series novels return in this series for lots of erotic, vampy fun with Dray, Val (Dray's older brother), and Atwell Gibbs (their cousin). Did I mention how gorgeous these vamps are? Oh, yeah, they're smokin' HOT in and out of the bedroom. Trust me! *lusty grin*

2.) Since you have characters from another series that will be in this one do you feel that readers would get more out of your serial series if they read them as well?

Yes and no. You don’t need to read The Witchery Series first in order to enjoy A Vampire’s Kiss, the first novel in The Manigault Vampires series. Even though my novels are part of my various series, I make sure they all have a HEA, and you get a good feel for the characters from other series so you don’t feel lost. However, A Vampire’s Kiss starts at Noelle’s Samhain party, which is at the end of Call of the Witches: Book Three of the Witchery Series. So I would encourage people as they are reading A Vampire’s Kiss every month to go back and read The Witchery Series just because you’ll learn even more about the characters you love.

3.) What are you currently working on?

Right now I am working on The Manigault Vampires series. All of my spin-off series are trilogies except this one. I would love for it to run for 10 novels or more. I’m also working on the spin-off series for Donnie and Savannah from What Witches Want: Book Two of the Witchery Series. They are such a hot, sweet couple, so I’ve decided to give them their own ebook spin-off series. Savannah is a Wiccan Faery Witch like me, so I’m calling it The Faery Witch Series. Noelle and Wynn from The Witchery Series also have their own ebook spin-off series called The Rune Witch Series. It should be coming out this year from Magicomm Media. If not, then Kittyfeather Press will publish it.

4.) What inspired you to start writing?

I started out as an artist and sold my paintings and prints worldwide until I was 30. But I never felt completely satisfied creatively. My teachers in high school and college always told me I had writing talent. But I’m mildly dyslexic, and it was very difficult for me. Back then they didn’t have computers, so I didn’t pursue writing. One day I picked up a Writer’s Digest magazine at the bookstore. I read an article about writing poetry. It inspired me so much I wrote a poem about one of my cats, and …eureka!…I was creatively satisfied for the first time in my life. *lol* I always tell people that day marked the end of my art career. So I dug up my old college grammar books and taught myself how to write, mostly by reading all the writers I enjoyed and studying how they crafted a novel. That was 23 years ago. Since then my short stories and poems have appeared in over 1000 magazines, literary journals, and anthologies worldwide. In 2005 one of my books was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, and I have received 7 Pushcart Award nominations. My resume of writing credits and awards is over 80 pages long. Now you know why I’m always encouraging women to follow their dreams. Find out what you wanna do, and then find a way to do it. Don’t wait for anyone to give you permission or encouragement. Just follow your heart and DO IT!

5.)Who are some of your favorite authors?

Emma Holly, Kathy Love, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Delilah Devlin, Sunny, Charlene Teglia, Jaci Burton.

6.) Are there any new authors that have caught your attention?

Hannah Murray, Lacy Danes, Anne Rainey, Jayne Rylon

7.) What is one of you favorite books?

Oh, that’s easy. Demon’s Fire by Emma Holly. It’s in her Demon Series. I was so in love with Prince Pahndir I knew I wanted my vampire, Dray, in A Vampire’s Kiss to have the long, silky black waist-length hair Holly gives her sexy royal demons, the Yama. That is the only similarity between the two, but it’s enough. If you know me, you know I’m CRAZY about men with long hair. Yummy! In fact, you’ll laugh at this. In 2008 I was doing a booksigning at Waldenbooks in the mall, and one of my fans had driven down from Spartanburg to come to this booksigning. We were talking, and all the sudden a gorgeous guy with silky black hair all the way down to his waist walked into the bookstore. Jen and I looked at each other and screamed, “YAMA!” It was a hoot. But then I’m infamous for ogling all the good-looking guys when I do a booksigning because most of mine are in malls. Hey, even a working girl’s gotta have her eye candy, ya know?

8.) What upcoming new release are you most looking forward to?

I can’t wait for The Rune Witch Series to come out. Finally! It was supposed to come out last Spring from Forbidden Publications. But they went out of business in March right before that series was to be released. So now a year later I am anxiously awaiting its publication. Finally! Wynn and Noelle are such a hot, kinky couple. My readers are just gonna love this series.

9.) Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?

Don’t think you need an MFA to get published and make a good living as a writer. It’s only been since the 1950s that we’ve had Creative Writing programs and degrees for this in colleges. Before that, the great writers studied the greats who came before them. So if you wanna write, do it. Write every day, practice your craft, and never give up. Persistence is everything in this business. No kidding.

10.) Do you have anything specific you would like to say to your readers?

What?…besides GET HOOKED ON MY BOOKS!! *lol* Sorry (well, not really). I couldn’t help myself. My readers know I have a very hard time taking anything in life too seriously. In fact they know my two goals in life are to have as much fun and sex as I possibly can. So far that’s working out reallllly well for me, and I’ll be 53 in April (horrors!…there must be some mistake, right?!). Still, life should be FUN. I’ve always run my career the same way. The minute something stops being fun I tweak it to make it fun again. In fact I just did that last week with this serialized novel series. I thought it would be cool to treat my loyal readers to hot vampire erotica every month. I mean, what could be better, ya know? The issues are short, like 15-20 pages, so even if you don’t have an e-reader they’re a piece of cake to read on computer or print out. Cool, huh? People are always gonna tell you what you can’t do. Ignore them. If you think you can do it, then you will find a way. And if you keep at it you’ll make a success of it. Hey, it’s always worked for me.

Thank you so much Laura for answering my questions! I really enjoyed part one and can't wait to see what happens next!
